In the lush setting of Bolgheri, a corner of Tuscany famous for its soul-stirring scenery and high quality wines, in 1998 Knauf created its own winegrowing estate: Campo alla Sughera, 20 hectares of vineyards growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Vermentino, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay grapes.
Cultivated on the basis of low yields (800 g per plant) and a high number of vines per hectare (9500), the vines are grown using the spurred cordon training system, with very close spacing (1.30m x 0.85m) - an innovative technique in this region. The company's aim is to produce excellent red wines which harness the terroir’s great potential while keeping quality very high.
The products from Campo alla Sughera have only been on the market since 2004 but have already received recognition nationally and internationally from the most authoritative wine magazines.
